Blackberries... an Oregon treasure

In late summer here, the blackberries quickly ripen.
Blackberries can be found free for the taking along fences, roadsides, clearings,
and fields throughout much of the Pacific Northwest.
My husband loves to head down the block to harvest these delicious sun-warmed,
juicy berries.

With his bucket now filled.... he returns home and I set out to
make mini blackberry almond tarts!

The scent of summer lingers in the kitchen as the golden treasures bake.

~It is time to enjoy this tasty fruit~

What kind of fruit are you enjoying these last days of summer?

Stay Cozy,
Carrie

  9. Hi Carrie..I love blackberries and your haul looks delicious! Here in Australia summer means mangos and tropical fruit salads. Bananas have been very scarce since last summer's cyclone up north and we've been told they'll be at normal prices close to Christmas..so I'm really looking forward to more bananas!

  13. Oh wow, those tarts look so delicious, I can almost smell them myself.

When I lived in British Columbia, we had blackberries at our disposal too.
I miss all that wonderful FREE fruit.
    Everything there was so abundant.

  16. Those tarts look very tasty. How do you make them? My blackberries are all but gone now, I have been picking them since mid July. I like making cobblers, upside down cakes and crumbles with my berries.
I saw the link to your site from Front Porches and thought I would visit when I saw what you were posting about.

  19. Hi Carrie, I just HAD to comment here.... I'm new to your blog.. and what Oregon blogger doesn't blog about the wonderous blackberries of Oregon! I grew up going picking with my mom and sisters in SE Portland/Gresham. Then, it was all country and little dirt roads, railroad tracks, etc. just full of wild blackberries! Sadly.. where I live now (and yes.. in Oregon).. there are NO blackberries! I've searched far and wide and asked everyone.. and no one knows of any.... but.... wait...... hubby and I were on a drive last summer to a little known area of the Deschutes River.. and lo and behold.. what did I see?????? tons of blackberries! bushes and bushes of them right along the river. They were still green and I vowed to go back, but never did last summer... as hubby didn't want to go as there are SNAKES there. But I vow.. this year I'm going no matter what.. I'll take my walking stick and whack the bushes I told hubby.. and I'm going no matter what.. I need some blackberry pie... jelly... cobbler.. juice.... swoon! Marilyn
