A Heartfelt Surprise...

Courtesy of Sesame Donuts here in town....this sweet gem was hidden amongst the box of the usual glazed and cake...

Isn't it adorable...and delicious too!

I took it over to my mom's house for her to enjoy!

Some "puzzling" nostaglia...

Sock Hops and Soda Counters were a little before my time...
But I can certainly appreciate the beauty of simpler days!

This original Whitman Puzzle cries out  for days gone by...
when girls were modest and boys asked "them" out for a coke!
Days when a shared banana split meant he really liked you...

Oh I know it wasn't all "perfect" then either...
but something inside of me wishes we could have a little bit
of the naivety of the "40's and '50's!
A little more "June Cleaver" and a lot less "Kardashian Family"!

And come to think of it the price of things wasn't bad either!
I believe this puzzle cost more than a gallon of gas!

....ahhh the memories!
(puzzle found at local thrift store for 99 cents!)

A Keurig Coffee makeover...

I love my new Keurig Coffe Maker...
We bought it for ourselves for Christmas!

But the holders they make for the K-cups can be very pricey and quite frankly
they don't hold many of the cups...

So I found this...

It's a rotating spice rack!  Great solution right?
I came across it at the Goodwilll...
It was missing the spice jars...which was perfect for me..

The K-cups fit perfectly...
and it holds 40 at one time!

I love it...
I am still considering painting it...maybe red...
but the wood is in great condition and it actually matches my kitchen cabinets...

What do you think???

Staying Cozy with my coffee,
Carrie

Missing Mary...

Oh how I miss going to the mailbox to find my
"Home Companion" magazine

Just look at this February issue...complete with valentines...

...and of course a signature "Mary" paper doll!

I am so happy to have my "collection" to browse through for
 ideas, inspiration and good old
 Mary Engelbreit frivolity!

You are loved and missed and always welcomed back...
sweet "Home Companion"!

Dress it Up...

Forget about the bottled dressings at the supermarket....
Making your own vinaigrette is so easy!
Just blend together...
3 parts olive oil ~ 2 parts vinegar ~ 1 part mustard (any flavor)
and add one of these extras:
1 part sriracha ~ 1 part grapefruit or pineapple juice ~ 1 chopped hard cooked egg
Voila!
Of course once you have the basics ~ go ahead and experiment!
It's healthier, it's cheaper and it tastes delicious!
And don't sweat over the fat in the olive oil...it is so good for you!
A salad a day keeps the "flu bugs" away!

January 15th is Strawberry ice Cream Day...

Growing up in the '60's & '70's... my 6 siblings and I would hover over the mailbox as our birthday neared in anticipation of the yearly "free ice cream cone" postcard from "31 Flavors".

YES...Baskin Robins was known as 31 Flavors back in the day....
and true to its name...there were 31 tasty flavors of creamy ice cream!
Oh the decision making.....

But it was always easy for me....STRAWBERRY!
Sweet, pink, strawberry!

As far as I was concerned there was only one choice!
Not only did I adore strawberry ice cream...it was the only kind I ate!

As my siblings would hem and haw over what kind to pick....

I was already enjoying each sweet lick....

So celebrate today...
National Strawberry Ice Cream Day!

ENJOY!

A wild ride....

Due to God's sifting and refinement in my life, I am looking at 2013 with clearer eyes & a softened and humbled heart. I am able to see that the financial and material losses I so deeply mourned were all for my good and they are in fact blessings & acknowledgements that I am His; for when I decide to walk with the Lord I must surrender myself to His will and expect a path for my life that I might never have imagined!

My hope is not to journey to my grave arriving unscathed, unwrinkled, looking as youthful as possible,  with as many earthly treasures as I can accumulate...
but to slide in broadside, thoroughly used up and worn out,
a heart overflowing with the love I shared & received,  proclaiming...
 "Wow, what a ride!"
And hearing the words,
"Well done my good and faithful, daughter."

So buckle your seat belts, ladies....
Let's take this ride together!

Carrie
