Last Christmas I made "Love Boxes" for all of my kids...I decorated each box to express each one's taste and personality and then the challenge began...snooping and spying for email addresses and cell phone numbers and secretly requesting love letters to include in the gift. The notes came via email, text messages and snail mail. In the end their boxes were filled with inspirational love notes that included stories, thoughts and memories that each person wanted to share about them.
The "Love Boxes" turned out to be the best gifts ever... my children were overwhelmed with tears of joy and surprise as they opened their Love Boxes and read their notes.
It was enormously fulfilling for me as I saw how blessed they were by the kind words from friends, co-workers, grandparents, aunts and uncles...each note was a tremendous surprise.
This Christmas I decided to make a "Love Box" for my best friend, Marsha!
She too expressed tears of joy and disbelief as she read each note and became aware of the authors. We all shared her delight as she read them one by one and once again I was the real recipient of the "gift" as I witnessed the love expressed in each word!
The Love Boxes don't end there....as notes, cards and letters are received throughout the days and weeks to come they can be added to the collection...and on a day when it seems the sunshine is dull and the laughter a bit quiet ...the box can be opened up, the letters read again and a hurting heart restored!
What a wonderful idea. I think your friend and children definitely know they are loved by you! There had to be alot of time and work involved with each one of these. They're beautiful.

That is an absolutely fabulous gift! I LOVE IT!!!! I understand how you could easily feel the way you did. Those are the best presents in the world. Touching someone's heart. What a wonderful idea. I'm going to kidnap your idea and start working on some now for Christmas 2010. Do you have an outline letter/e.mail to help facilitate the request? Curious minds need to know!

Those are delightful! And it just shows what a sweet person you are to have saved all the notes over time.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea and think that it is an amazingly lovely thing you did.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea. Years ago when I taught teenagers, we did a lesson called "Gifts of Happiness" and each students wrote a positive thing about each of the students in the class. It would have been great to have them make a love box to put them in. (Students came back years later and they still had their little notes) I may steal your idea for a Valentine gift for one of my friends.
ReplyDeleteI am helping my son's friend to make her wedding invitations. I just have to make her one of these in her invitation colors.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get the box? Does it have clear plastic in the lid? Any hints?
What a wonderful idea, can't wait to try it out! Your kids have a great Mommy!
