Smell the roses...

Roses are red;
and other colors too,
Mine are still blooming...
How about you?

I know their days are numbered....
so I am taking in every minute of these beautiful flowers!

Lavender Loo

Our Trip to a Beautiful Lavender Farm in Hood River, Oregon!

We were there at the height of the season...this past August.

As my husband stood in the gazebo...
...all was quiet...
except for the collective sound of the buzzing bees!

Everything was "Lavender" ~ even the outhouse!

...or shall I say the "Loo"!
Isn't that adorable?

Before & After and Urban Outfitters?

Since our couch is an L-shape with an ottoman...
...we needed a small table...with particular dimensions!

We were looking for a round one but then I spied this triangular -shape!
This table was for sale at "Urban Outfitters"!
From time-to-time they sell some of the furniture pieces they have used in displays, etc.
We were back-to-school shopping with our daughter~
~who knew we would find a table there! It was $20.00 (pricier than a garage sale but come on...Urban Outfitters?)
And after all...it was just the size we were looking for!

And Voila!
Isn't it fabulous?
Since the top and bottom pieces are veneer~
~ we used four coats of a high gloss paint. (48 hr. curing time)
The legs are real wood...so they were stripped and re-stained!

We are so pleased with the result!

~meant to be~

~to commemorate our 30 years of marriage~
~a gift for my husband~
~a vintage musical liquor bottle with a dancing couple inside~

We met on New Years Eve at a Disco when he asked me to "dance"
(the little couple spins around and dances to the music)
We were drinking champagne!
(it is a bottle for holding wine or liquor)
The price tag read $30.00
(we have been married for 30 years!)

~It was meant for us...and we were meant for each other~

    Mixing it up...Vintage Style!

Look at this Fabulous Retro Find for my daughter!

     It's a Vintage 1950's Sunbeam Mixer...
...with the original glass bowls and the two sets of beaters!
The mixer pops off to switch to a hand held style!
It was only $5.00 at a garage sale!

My soon-to-be 21 year old daughter is starting her 3rd year at college.
She just moved into her very own 1920's era apartment downtown.
(She lived with 3 other girls last year!)

She loves to bake (especially cupcakes)!
She is going to be excited!
Of course I had to try it out first...so I made her a pan of  "blondies" !

    Happy Baking!

    Easy Kitchen Window Project!

There is a wonderful place here in Portland called "The Rebuilding Center"

The Center carries the region’s largest volume of used building and remodeling materials. It provides resources that make home repairs affordable to everyone, with the goal of promoting the reuse of salvaged and reclaimed materials.
Three hundred visitors come to The Rebuilding Center every day to browse the ever-changing inventory that includes sinks, tubs, tile, lumber, doors, windows, trim and much more.
It is a non-profit "green" Organization where all the materials are donated and the money goes into the community.  Items sell for 70%-90% off their original value!
They have tons of old windows right now...many of them came from a 1920's school building.

My daughter bought a large one with 30 panes..for only $1 a pane.
She is going to use it for a large photo collage...it rests against her wall in her 1920"s apartment!

I found a wonderful window too...and this is what i did with it!

    I just love it!
It serves as my "Kitchen Communication Center".
I just use the "white board" markers and an eraser.

This one sold for $2 a pane...so it cost me only $4.00!
It was already painted red... I just distressed it a bit more.
I added the little black shelf underneath to hold the marker and eraser.
(I think I am going to distress that too)

My husband hung it with heavy duty "eye screws" and "S" hooks.
    It adds to the look.

Find an old discarded window...and you too will have an instant wipe-off board...
    ...with a lot of character!
