The Little Free Library...

There are many of these darling "self-serve" Lending Libraries" in
neighborhoods in Portland and the outlying communities.
This one is just a couple of blocks from my house...

Just open the door and choose a book that looks interesting.
Take a book - leave a book!

Do you have these in your area?
If not - perhaps you could start one.
Visit here for more information.

I think I will choose this book today.

How to start a Little Free Library book exchange

Stay Cozy,

  1. What a fabulous initiative to leave books in a little 'house' for borrowing. The book you have chosen looks like a good read.

  2. I love this idea! I hope they pop up everywhere. A small independent neighborhood grocery where we used to live had a bin at the front of their store for the same thing. It was nice to pass books along that way and to see what was available for myself.

    Are you enjoying the book?

  4. I had seen about this a few years ago.. moved to a different town (Madras, OR) and was going for a walk and voila! there was one just a couple of blocks from our house! I was so happy.... though it has mostly childrens' books, but what a fun way for children to be excited about going to the little library to see what's new there. I keep meaning to take a few childrens' books I've found at thrift stores. I bet there are more here in this town too. I think you can go to their site and find them in your area!

  7. I haven't seen them in our local community but we have a FANTASTIC suburban library.....it is one of my fave places to go on a rainy evening after work!

However, they do have these little free libraries along the roadsides in the mountain communities just north of us...in the Adirondacks..and i saw one on Cape Cod last time I was there. what a fun concept, huh?? OH..there IS one in my town..i just remembered....there's one along the bike path where i power walk next to the Mohawk River....near a little gazebo.

    Enjoy the day!!

  8. We have them all over our area. What a sweet little bonus to everyday life! I now take my books to the VA clinic where I volunteer. We have a hard time keeping enough books for the veterans to take home.

Hope you ave a great night, Carrie. xo Diana

  10. Such a wonderful idea. We are blessed we have a library bus that comes around weekly so thankfully we are never short of something to read.
