This dessert is just perfect - parfait means "perfect" in French!
American parfaits are usually prepared in a tall glass filled with a layer of ice cream
or pudding and whipped cream with the addition of your choice
of any other delicious ingredients!
This recipe calls for pudding...
Growing up...I remember my mom making chocolate pudding for me
and my 6 siblings.
She made it on the stove - the cooked kind!
As it cooled in the fridge it would form a thin layer on the top that was quite thick.
Any body out there remember this?
I never liked this top layer - yuck - so I would scrap it off with my spoon before I ate it!
"Instant pudding" hadn't come out yet! I prefer that today!

I love pudding. Your picture is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI remember the cook and serve pudding. I didn't like to eat the top layer but it was intriguing to me. Your parfait looks delicious! The picture is beautiful. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to check my pantry right now to see if I have some chocolate pudding .... yum!!! And yes, my mom used to make pudding as well. And I, like you, never liked the "skin" that formed on top. Supposedly if you press a sheet of plastic wrap on top of it as it cools, that will prevent it. Anyway, yay for "chocolate parfait day" :)
ReplyDeleteHi Carrie,

Oh how I remember that! Always pealed it off, made my mother mad. And how was I so underweight way back then eating like that????

Looks delicious! My mom used to make pudding that way too, and I also didn't like the top and would take it off. Will definitely try this one out:)

Looks so yummy. Yes, my Mom made the cooked kind too(with the thick part), but I love the instant for most things. I even love the sugar free made with non fat milk.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this pretty idea for making an easy treat.
Oh yuck I hated that skin. Your desert looks much nicer.
