I decided to try my luck at making a Jelly Roll Rug...
My first and last attempt...
To start with I actually sewed my finger in my machine -
it punctured my nail (ouch-that hurt!)
I almost quit the project then but I powered through.
The prints were fun to work with and luckily I got the jelly roll on
clearance at Joanne's...because...
My edges turned out wanky! (not happy about that)
It will not lay flat - I think I pulled on the fabric too much and stretched it :(
I have been sewing for years but this one didn't quite go right!
Any suggestions for helping this rug lay flat - can I use it to create something else?
Or is this just a toss out???
Still Staying Cozy...
Carrie
Such a shame, hopefully someone will have some suggestions that will help.
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty fabrics. How disappointing it is wavy. I wonder if you wash it in hot water then lay it flat pressing it into shape as it dries.
ReplyDeleteWell I think it’s pretty cute!!
ReplyDeleteThe rug is very pretty love the material you used. Try turning it over and putting some weight on it. Have a blessed day. Madeline
ReplyDeleteHi Carrie,
ReplyDeleteI’ve never attempted one of these rugs so I can’t really give you any advice on this exact topic however I’m making a falling charms quilt at the moment and I am having trouble with a particular lot of charms, I feel they were inferior quality and are a lot thinner than the other two packs of charms and will not lay flat.. A friend of mine who is very experienced in quilting suggested I spray it with spray starch to give it some body and make it lay better, you could give that a go.
Don't toss it out. It's quirky and fun! Imperfection is beautiful. 🤗
ReplyDeleteI was just at a quilt shop today in Prineville and saw one of those rugs! Had never seen one! It was SO pretty and (uh...) it laid flat! Don't know what they did. They are giving a class in March.. was thinking of taking it maybe, but have used some of my jelly roll and really don't want to buy another one, so probably won't. I liked it as had that braided rug look but wasn't braided. Hum..m.m.I don't know about making it lay flat... try pressing with a hot steam iron or take to cleaners and see if they can press it with their big steam presses??? Let us know what happens! Marilyn
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I think this is beautiful. Don't toss it!!! Thank you for visiting my blog. And no. Mom isn't blogging. I wish she would. You wouldn't believe the beautiful quilts she has made!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a jelly roll rug, but I liked seeing your fabulous colors. Hope your finger is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteWow! I am impressed you tried. It looks tricky. I love the colors and fabrics.
ReplyDeleteOh how cute!! I would not toss this rug. Maybe after you use it for awhile, it will flatten out. Get it wet, and weight it down? but don't toss all this work, and cuteness. I hope your finger is healing. Debbie xo
ReplyDeleteGood for you for powering though! I love the fabrics you picked, I would keep this wonky and all. its got character.
