Flat Sandy came to Town...

My niece, Audrey, asked if I would help her out with a special school project.  The students were asked to send "Flat Sandy" or "Flat Stanley" to someone in another state, where they would need to be created and dressed to depict the weather of that state.  Audrey and her family live in Southern California.

This is how "Flat Sandy" arrived.  It was up to me to cut her out and turn her into a little girl that would return to school dressed appropriately for her visit to the state of Oregon and perhaps a souvenir in hand too.

Here is the finished project...complete with a closet to keep her in, a photo album of her experience here, a backpack with "of course" an umbrella and note pad and a souvenir book filled with photos of the sights and scenes of the area!

She went to a birthday party while here.

She celebrated Valentine's Day with us.

And she returned home with an Oregon sweatshirt, hat and fur topped boots!

The day after I arrived for my trip to California my niece and her family came to my mom's house where I was staying to lend a hand with the chores (see previous post).  As they got out of their car...they were all so excited that Flat Sandy had arrived in the mail that day and they brought her with them.  I was able to see first hand how much Audrey liked her...we were able to sit together as she showed her off to everyone...my goal  that she would have a "Flat Sandy" to be proud of at school was accomplished!

  6. How sweet! And how funny cause my Grandson sent me Flat Stanley last spring! The thing I had to do was send him back with something to show where he'd been and why. Well, being spring, my friends were sheering the sheep getting ready to lamb, so I told that story and sent him back with some real wool!
I tackles the kids to do something like this. I'm glad you had fun.
Come see the giveaway I'm having...

  13. You did a great job!!

We did the "Flat Stanley" project when each of my kids were in first grade. My daughter sent hers to Grandparents in Washington. And my son sent his to friends in Australia. It was so much fun to get the pictures back. This was before the days of digital cameras and facebook and blogs and people still communicated mostly by snail mail.
